Saguenay City has won their bid to host the 2009 IFSS World Dryland Championships at the Bec-Scie Outdoor Centre (Le Centre Plein Air Bec-Scie) in the municipality of La Baie. The event will take place from October 28th through November 1, 2009.
Situated at the end of the Saquenay fjord, this region is a popular tourist destination in both winter and summer. The brackish fjord boasts an array of interesting sea life, a deep sea port and is a popular destination of cruise ships. The outdoor centre performs various functions and is home to a nordic centre in winter which hosts the Défi Blanc de la Riviere Mars sleddog race each March.
With approximately 150000 permanent residents, Saguenay boasts ample accommodations and points of interest. The city is accessible from Montreal by air or rail service (Mon/Wed/Fri). Saguenay can also be reached via highway 175 from Quebec City (225km).The race trails make use of winding forest roads with a firm sandy surface and follow a picturesque river gorge. The trails are at least 5 meters wide for their entire length.
