Norway to host 2011 World Championships

IFSS LogoThe Norway bid to host the 2011 IFSS World CHampionships has been unanimously accepted. The event will be held at 3 separate venues: Oslo – Holmenkollen, Hamar and Røros and includes nordic style classes, sprint, mid distance and long distance classes.

Røros and Femundløpet will host the long distance race. The town of Røros approx 400 km north of Oslo is one of the oldest towns of wooden buildings in Europe, and has been found worthy of a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

Femundløpet has a 20 year history and attracted 150 entries for the 2009 race. Femundløpet has two classes: 12 dog- 600 km and 8 dog – 400 km. The trail goes through forest and high mountains.

Hamar Hundekjører Arena will be the race site for 6 dog sprint, Unlimited sprint and mid-distance classes. This is a specially designed race site for sled dog racing and hosted the European Championship in 2006 and 2007. Hamar has a offers a variety of accommodations close to the race site. Hamar is approx. 130 km north of Oslo (90 km from Oslo airport).
 
Holmenkollen will be the race site for Nordic classes and 4 and 8 dog sprint.Holmenkollen is the national ski arena for Nordic skiing, the most visited tourist
destination in Norway, and an icon in international winter sport. Holmenkollen is presently being totally rebuilt and redesigned for the 2011 International Ski Federation (FIS) World Championships. This also includes new design of all trails. Holmenkollen will be finished mid 2010.

The company, Visit Oslo, will take care of the lodging and accommodation.

The event will take advantage of all the major media companies being present in Oslo due to the FIS World Championship. The organizing committee is working with the national media companies to cover the event at Hamar and media coverage is already well organized at Femundløpet.

Race dates:

Holmenkollen: March 10.-13. (alt: 17.-20. ), 2011
(One week after FIS Cross Country World Championships)
Hamar: March 18.-20., (alt: 25.-27.), 2011
Røros: February 3.-10. , 2011
