Monticello, Minnesota USA The International Federation of Sleddog Sports (IFSS) has made its selection of people to participate in a Nordic Training Camp in Sweden in February, 2010.

There were an impressive thirty-three applicants, all of  “very high caliber,” according to Darren Watson, IFSS Oceania Regional Director, who was on the selection committee. “The selection criteria was based on a combination of skiing ability and experience, any previous skijoring experience, previous history of the applicants’ willingness to promote and develop the sport within their own country, recommendation and support of the National Federation, and, of course, consultation and recommendations of the Norwegian and Swedish Federations as the providers of training and facilities.” Owing to the large number and excellent quality of the applicants, the selection process took longer than anticipated.

The primary goals of the camp are to improve the abilities and performance of those wishing to compete in the Nordic disciplines at the IFSS World Championships in Norway in 2011 and to give the training camp participants the skills and tools to enable them to go back to their own countries and educate others, further helping to develop skijoring and pulka.

Participating in the Training Camp will be:

• Jim Benson (USA)

• Trevor Braun (Canada)

• Matias Escobar (Chile)

• Susannah Kelly (Canada)

• Olafs Kludzins (Latvia)

• Stefan Leicht (Germany)

• Cari-Lynn McSorley (Canada)

• Dave Meisenheimer (Canada)

• Larry Nichvolodov (New Zealand)

• Daria Panyukhina (Russia)

• Jaroslaw Poplonski (Poland)

• Jason Sperry (USA)
