Fundraising thermometerMushing Canada operates on a very slim budget, powered by volunteer labour.  However, there are currently a few essential expenses that we are not able to cover without donations: namely website costs, banking fees, and dues to the International Federation of Sleddog Sports (IFSS).  While we work on creating stable funding to cover these annual table stakes, your financial support is much appreciated!

Current Mushing Canada annual expenses
 Item Cost
 website domain names (mushing.ca, mushing-canada.ca, mushingcanada.ca) ~$40
 banking fees
 ~$150
 IFSS membership dues  $1000

Our goal is to reach $1000 in donations for 2009.   We don't know how many mushers there are in Canada, but we suspect that there are well over a 1000 (registering with Mushing Canada would help us determine such things), making our goal easily achievable if everyone were to donate $1 each*. We all want a national organization that can do more: providing support for local and regional programs; gaining membership in other national federations where mushers need representation, such as the Canadian Trails Federation; providing financial support for national team members to travel to international competitions and national team uniforms.  A more detailed analysis of the possibilities can be found in our FAQ section.  The first step, however, is to maintain our current status as a foundation to build upon.  Among the costs of not doing so, is to risk slipping to provisional membership with the IFSS, a status with no voting rights.
*Note that Paypal receives $0.30 + 2.9% of each donation as a brokerage fee - an unfortunate cost but one we feel is important for your confidence when making this donation online.
